APPLEGATE VALLEY, OREGON
Critics of the Applegate Valley
applaud this vintage for its
bright, food-friendly character. The nose offers aromas of dried cherry, coffee, and toasted vanilla. On the palate, expect rich, dark fruit flavors—such as blackberry and black cherry—accented by subtle mesquite, herbaceous notes, and a balanced acidity.
Herb Quady grew up on the family winery, Quady North, in Central California with a compulsory love for Muscat, but after an accidental exposure to the world of Rhône varieties at the hand of Randall Graham, he grew obsessed with the idea of making table wines. After earning a winemaking degree at Fresno State, he eventually moved to Southern Oregon. While working as the winemaker for Troon Vineyard, Herb and wife Meloney founded Quady North in 2006.
In 2006, we planted our Estate Vineyard (“Mae’s Vineyard) to Syrah, Cabernet Franc and Viognier. Cabernet Franc has proven to be a standout from the Estate, and as the vineyard has come into bearing, the majority of the Cabernet Franc is sourced from Mae’s vineyard. Mae’s vineyard is denoted by red soils, south facing slopes, and moderating afternoon breezes.
A specialty of the house. We love Cabernet Franc from the Applegate and find that it's one of the premier examples of the variety. This bottling has all the hallmarks of a great vintage, with red pepper, loam and tobacco notes. The structured tannins will guarantee that this wine will age well over time
