BORDEAUX, FRANCE

The 2019 Frank Phélan Ségur is the acclaimed second wine of Château Phélan Ségur in Saint-Estèphe, offering an earlier-drinking, elegant, and fruit-forward profile compared to the grand vin. Composed primarily of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, and a touch of Petit Verdot, it displays notes of blackcurrant, spice, and cedar with silky tannins, designed for enjoyment within 5–10 years of release.

A very spicy and typical St.-Estephe with nutmeg, clove and berry character. Medium body with slightly chewy tannins and a savory finish. Give it time to soften. Serious second wine from Phelan. Try after 2025.

The 2nd wine of Phélan Ségur, and one to take note of in 2019 vintage. Ripe and round, with a 3.9pH which might not suggest huge longevity, but in a 2nd wine what you are looking for is approachability and a signature of its older sibling, and you get that in spades. Tons of character, brushed brambly damson and blackberry fruit, gorgeously pliant-but-present tannins, and a mouthwatering finish.
